If there is one accessory in my closet that seems to get the most response online and on the streets it has to be the Vivienne Westwood World's End Mountain Hat. People often refer to it as the 'Pharrell Hat', since he rocked it earlier this year but what a lot of people don't know that it has been around for decades so I thought I would do a little post about it.
The hat was first produced in 1982 by Westwood for the 'Nostalgia of Mud' fashion show and has ever since been a staple at the World's End boutique in London. The collection was inspired by Peruvian women, characterised by the knee length circle skirts, short jackets and utilitarian blankets which also doubled up as means to carry things around and not forgetting the felt hats. The Mountain hat has so far been made in 12 colours with a straw version each summer which is absolutely beautiful. The hat was worn by Malcom McLaren in his Buffalo Girls music video and on the back of his Duck Rock album. So there you have it. If you want to get hold of one of these your best bet is the World's End Boutique in London but as you can imagine. They do sell out rather quickly.
Have a great day!
