Project Flake Concept Car
If you ever drove behind an Audi TT on the street you can't help but notice a little air brake that pop's up every time the car stops. It might look insignificant but air-breaks have been used successfully in motor-racing and on street cars for quiet some time now. Popular examples include the impressive Bugatti Veyron that relies heavily on its air brake to stop and keep itself planted to the ground which helps. Da Feng's Flake Concept comprises of 250 active body panels controlled by mini solenoids pulling on carbon nano-tube wires. The result is a body that can lay flat to decrease drag, hinge upward to slow the vehicle and collect solar power or open fully to aid cornering and increase downforce. Check out the simulation video below of the concept in action. What do you make of it?
