2012 Volkswagen Beetle
As far as cars go they don't get more iconic than the VW Beetle. As long as I can remember I have been fascinated with the car along with other countless generations. And while remakes like the now BMW owned Mini were a runaway success the humble Beetle has not yet had its glory day in the sun. However with the 2012 release of the car things seem to be looking a lot more promising. Overall it sports a much more masculine look than the model it replaces. The car has a longer roofline and a more aggresively raked windshield. There will be 4 engines to choose, ranging from an efficient 1.2 liter gasoline model to a 2.0 liter turbocharged one along with a 1.6 turbo diesel. The 1.6 diesel offers 65.7 mpg along with 105 horsepower thanks to an intellegent start/stop and battery regeneration system. The 2.0 liter model gets 200 horsepower. Expect cabriolet models to trickle down soon. The car is set to debut at the Shanghai and New York Motor Shows. Scroll down below the break for more images.
